Unpopular Opinion (?) We’re all APP’d Out

There’s an app for this and an app for that - download, input credit card details - rinse and repeat.

Consumer who is sick of apps

And in the Services Platform space; everyone is building the Uber for this, the Uber for that. The honest reality is that the Uber model does not work for most other services:

  • The unit economics don’t work, and/or

  • There are weak value propositions on one or both sides of the platform.

Why/How - The Tech

Ridesharing (Uber) is ONLY possible because of GPS technology available to everyone with a smartphone. This technology made it instantly possible for everyone with a smartphone and a car to operate with the same ability as a taxi driver - who before GPS had to learn maps and city streets the old fashioned way.

This technology was the critical key component to the ‘disruption’ in this industry - not the Uber app.

App based companies claiming to be the Uber of their respective service/industry lack a powerful technology that Centralizes critical information to enable them to Centralize services onto their platform.

GPS was the powerful technology and key component that led to the ‘Disruption’ in the taxi industry - not the Uber App.

These days there are so many no-code tools available where anyone can build an app. Handld has an app - I built it myself and I’m far from a tech savvy software developer.

But my mission is for Handld clients to continue to be able to book services without having to download anything, and to do it at scale.

Discovering that the actual app is insignificant and will never solve the most critical problems in the handyman industry, or centralize services into one place - has freed up my mental bandwith to focus on delivering the World's Simplest Way to Book a Handyman.

And I’m also a consumer who is App’d out.  I would love to hear your thoughts!
